Privacy policy

WorthCheck (“we”, “us”) operates the website at worthcheck.net and the WorthCheck mobile apps. We are the data controller for the personal data described here. Contact us at hello@worthcheck.net.

• Account data — your email address and, if you sign in with Google or Apple, the basic profile information those providers return.
• Your checks — the product links and questions you submit and the verdicts produced for them, saved to your history.
• Usage data — how many checks you have run in the current day, so we can apply the free-plan limit.
• Approximate location — your country, derived from your IP address, so we can show local retailers, currency and language. We do not store precise location.
• Billing data — if you subscribe, our payment processor handles your card details. We never see or store your full card number.
• Technical data — standard server logs and error reports needed to keep the service running and secure.

• To provide the service and save your verdicts — performance of our contract with you.
• To enforce free-plan limits and prevent abuse — our legitimate interest.
• To localise currency, language and retailers — our legitimate interest in a usable service.
• To take payment and manage subscriptions — performance of our contract with you.
• To show advertising on the free plan — consent, where required in your region.
• To comply with tax, accounting and legal obligations — legal obligation.

Verdicts you generate can be published at a public web address so they can be shared and found in search engines. A published verdict shows the product, the verdict and the research behind it. It does not show your name, your email address or any other identifying detail. If you would like a specific verdict unpublished, email us and we will remove it.

We use a small number of providers, each acting on our instructions:

• Our cloud hosting and database provider, for the application, accounts and stored verdicts.
• Our AI provider, to generate verdicts from the material we retrieve.
• Our web-retrieval provider, to fetch product pages and reviews.
• Stripe, to process payments and subscriptions.
• Google, to serve advertising on the free plan.

Some providers operate outside the European Economic Area. Where that is the case, transfers are covered by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or an equivalent safeguard.

We use cookies and local storage that are strictly necessary to keep you signed in and to remember your language and currency preference. On the free plan, our advertising partner may set additional cookies to measure and personalise ads; where the law requires it, these are only set with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

Account data and saved verdicts are kept while your account exists. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days, except records we must retain for tax and accounting purposes, which are kept for the period required by law. Server logs are kept for a short period for security and debugging.

If you are in the EEA or the UK, you have the right to access your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to processing, and receive a portable copy. You can also withdraw consent where processing relies on it, and lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.

WorthCheck is not intended for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
